(AP) — Mike Adras resigned Friday as Northern Arizona's basketball coach.

Athletic Director Jim Fallis said Dave Brown will serve as interim head coach while a search for a permanent replacement is conducted. Brown is a member of the NAU Athletics Hall of Fame and former head coach of the NAU's women's basketball team and the Yavapai College men's team.

"It's important to maintain stability in the program, and I'm confident in Dave's abilities," Fallis said.

Adras served as an assistant coach for seven years at the school before becoming head coach in 1999. He was 193-170 as head coach. The Lumberjacks are 2-7 this season.

"I am proud of what my team has built at NAU and of our student athletes," Adras said.

Brown will direct the team Saturday night against Cal State Bakersfield.

"I'm personally committed to the success of the men's basketball program," Brown said. "I have worked closely with the athletes and the program for years, and I'm confident the Lumberjacks will perform well on and off the court."
